Bogusław Dybaś, Anna Ziemlewska, Irmgard Nöbauer: Karl Lanckoroński und seine Zeit

Karl Count Lanckoroński (1848-1933), to whom this book is dedicated, was one of the pioneers of modern monument conservation and owned one of the largest private art collections in the world around 1900. He was committed to the preservation of many of Vienna's historic buildings. Lanckoroński came from an important Polish noble family. He lived in Vienna - apart from numerous trips - and was the builder and landlord of the neo-baroque Palais Lanckoroński by theater architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer in Jacquingasse in Vienna, in the immediate vicinity of Belvedere Palace. The palace also housed his art collection. He was a friend and patron of numerous artists of his era, including Rainer Maria Rilke, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Jacek Malczewski and Hans Makart.
